This chapter is the first recorded instance of a "Cliff Notes" version of a story. Moses basically relates the high-points (or perhaps the low-points) of their journey in the wilderness.

Think about the journey you've taken. What have been some of the high and low points as you've followed God? What are the moments when God was calling you to step out into the thin air of faith and trust Him to catch you? Did you do it? If you didn't, what did God show you through that experience? Have you had moments when you doubted God's goodness as the Israelites did? We are so quick to forget all the times He has blessed and provided as soon as we run into hardship.

I spent some precious moments last night with a good friend and was reminded how blessed we are when we are constantly aware of our desperate need for God. When God provides abundantly, we begin to believe all that we have is our right and expectation. We think that our hands have created what we have and that we deserve to live a life of ease. We forget that every breath we have comes from the Lord because He's granted so much beyond that.

But when money is tight and you are depending on God to provide as He promised to do for His children, when your health is failing and you are clinging to His promise to heal either on this earth or by carrying you Home, when your children are hurting, or departing from the Lord, or need more than you can possibly give -- you find that God is enough. That experience of God's faithfulness is a magnificent blessing and one that those who live in ease often miss.

The Israelite generation who entered the Promised Land had spent their entire lives depending - and fully aware that they were depending - on God for the very food they ate each day. Make no mistake, each of us is equally dependent on God, some of us just live in the illusion that we are manufacturing the manna for ourselves.

What are you depending on God for today? Don't say everything, although that is true. Think about what you are consciously, prayerfully, desperately needing Him to accomplish for you today. If you're willing to share, I'd love to pray for you.
